Hand in Hand: the Suzanne R.Leider Memorial Assistance Fund

All of our Sarcoma Alliance programs seek to extend a warm helping hand to sarcoma patients. Today we honor that commitment with a new program, Hand in Hand: The Suzanne R. Leider Memorial Assistance Fund.

The Hand in Hand program allows us to build on our personal connection with sarcoma patients, in this case supporting their efforts to explore second opinions from physicians. Hand in Hand offers specific financial assistance for second opinion consultations by reimbursing expenses related to travel, phone bills, costs of the evaluation and directly related charges. Grants up to $1000 annually (per patient) are offered on a quarterly basis to qualified applicants. These grants, though modest, will allow us to touch as many patients lives as possible. We inaugurated Hand in Hand as part of our celebration of Sarcoma Awareness Week, June 9th, June 15th, 2003. Hand in Hand pilot program applications are available for downloading from our website.

Suzanne Leider was tireless in her search for knowledge and guidance in all aspects of her life. She sought out and effectively collaborated with many health-care practitioners who extended both the quality and duration of her life during her battle with sarcoma. It was Suzanne's wish that part of her legacy would be to help other sarcoma patients access the same wonderful network of health care information she found. In honor of Suzanne's wishes, the Sarcoma Alliance is pleased to announce the beginning of this exciting new assistance program.
